The old man is snoring

We had a beautiful day yesterday. You know one of those Minnesota September days where the leaves are starting to change, the skys are blue, a sweatshirt feels nice, but you can get by with a long sleeve T-Shirt. You know, one of those days.

Today, however, is a rainy, gray typical Minnesota September day. Of course this is the day that I hoped to move. I got to EPBR at 6:45 (see last post for how much fun I'm having). Andy and Ben got to my place at about 9:00 and have been back and forth with 4 or 5 loads already. The Walvatnes were going to bring their trailer so they could load everything onto it, and hopefully make it over in one trip. However, because it is an open trailer, and because it is pouring, they've gone to plan B and are bringing over their van and will try to get everything else moved in another 4 or 5 trips. I feel for Andy, he's going to have a really long day.

I will leave here at 7:30 (or so), go home and pack up the last things, and clean. My goal is to be completely done and out of the house by midnight. I'll go home and crash somewhere and be back here by 6:30 tomorrow...

EP Board Review

I'm sitting at the EP Board Review Course, and really wishing I'd gotten more than 3.5 hours of sleep last night.

Here's an example of what I'm hearing " Q: What is the best interval to test to see if there is bundle block or no bundle block? Answer: What you want to see as soon as you go out of the bundle branch is earliest V to earliest A" or Q: When the bundle branch goes away are you going to need to set the PVCs eariler or later? A: Even earlier, you're now pacing from the ...." Yeah, makes no sense to me either. I've only had 3 questions that I've had to do anything with, and I've been here since 6:45. I am so glad I'm not planning to take my Cardiology Boards anytime soon.

Kinda busy

Just figured out a way to make my weekend a bit less stressful, 'cus I found someone to cover the CV Board Review for me on Friday. See Friday's revised schedule...

Williamsons

It sure is nice having Grandma at Mom and Dad's house. I'm getting pictures of people I haven't seen for a long time. If I read the note right the whole Williamson clan (minus Matthew and April) got together in Michigan over Labor Day. Looks like fun.

West Coast

Dad sent pictures from Tim and Jan's visit with Aunt Jeanette in Stanwood, where Grandma is visiting for a few weeks. I think that they visited Nick and Leo before or after Stanwood, but I'm not sure of who they saw when. You've probably all seen these, but thought I'd post a few of of them in case you hadn't.

Montanist

Been reading a bit about Justinian I and Theodora I. (483-565), and came across this quote.

"he prosecuted the heretical Montanists"

I have read a bit out the Montanists, although right now I can't remember their specific heresy (something to do with the divinity of Christ, I think).

Anyway, my real question. Is a Montanist (the heretic) pronounced the same way that a fan of Montana would be?

I see my self as a strong Montan(a)ist, and would maybe go so far as to say that I promote Montan(a)ism. Poor Justinian, if he only knew that we'd still be promoting such things 1500 years later...

JAC is 6-months old plus

Last Friday the Stewartvillians invited me over for family night (N & F were in town too). It also happened to be JAC's 6-month birthday, so I thought I'd share some pictures of him. Isn't he getting big? He doesn't even look like the same baby from my posts last month. Jama and Nani, wanted in on the pictures, so these are some silly pics of them too.

Quality Roadie

As most of you probably know, the department I work in is called Quality Management Services. This morning I realized that I'm not really the manager of this group called "quality", I'm really more like the roadie. I set up the AV equipment, make sure the catering is arranged, lug equipment (books, binders, jump drives, lots of paper) from one location to another. Wouldn't that be a great title to have on my business card? May not qualify as a dream job, but I think it's in my top 10 for dream job titles.

I've been reading one of Chuck Klosterman's book about interviews/articles he's done with different bands and entertainers, which brought on the whole band manager idea. Do any of my fellow Sioux know who Chuck Klosterman is? He's someone else I can't actually recommend because of the language he uses in parts of his articles, but I would really like to have a discussion about his work with someone who's read him, so let me know.

2 things

OK, two things completely unrelated.

1. Can anyone tell me if the words "holy" and "complete" are related? Pastor Rinden mentioned in the sermon today in reference to Hebrews 12:18-24 (You have not come to a mountain that can be touched....but you have come to Mount Zion) that it was in the perfect tense, which means that it has happened. We have reached the mountain and are now standing there. The rest of the sermon was very good but my mind wandered to the meaning of perfect tense, which from my latin days means that the action has been completed. Completed also being a good definition of perfected. Matthew 5:48 says "be perfect as I am perfect" makes more sense when you think about it as "be complete as I am complete" (e.g. because I have completed the work, you too can be complete). Leading also to the idea that "it is finished" means "it is completed", "it is perfected". Here's where my question comes in. Does I Peter 1:16 "be holy because I am holy" mean the same thing? Is the holiness we're called to the same as the completeness we recieve?

I should really pull out my greek dictionary and my references, but really don't know which box they are in now. Any help would be appreciated.



OK, point 2, which as I said is not related in any way. I'm re-reading David Sedaris' book "Dress Your Famiy in Courderoy and Denim" he is very funny, but I won't go so far as to recommend it, as the language and topic matter in parts of his writing is offensive. (you don't know it, but I debated a long time about writing "somewhat offensive", but isn't offensiveness a subjective thing? It either is or it isn't?) Anyway he has a passage about looking for a home in France and all the regrets he has regarding the one chosen. Soon after purchasing his first apartment (not just renting) in Paris, he travels to Amsterdam and visits Anne Frank's home. His first (maybe only?) reaction to the place, is that it's the perfect set up and would be an ideal home. I'm quoting the next two paragraphs verbatim as it expresses my thoughts about finding the "perfect" new home

At the risk of sounding too koombaya, I felt as if I had finally come home. A cruel trick of fate had kept me away, but now I was back to claim what was rightfully mine. It was the greatest feeling in the world: excitement and relief coupled with the giddy anticipation of buying stuff, of making everything just right.

I didn't snap out of it until I accidentally passed into the building next door, which has been annexed as part of the museum. Above a display case, written across the wall in huge, unavoidable letters, was this quote by Primo Levi: "A single Anne Frank moves us more than the countless others who suffered just as she did but whose faces have remained in the shadows. Perhaps it is better that way. If we were capable of taking in all the suffering of all those people, we would not be able to live."

He did not specify that we would not be able to live in her house, but it was definitely implied, and it it effectively squashed any fantasy of ownership.

Just had to share, especially after yesterday's trip to Ikea where I definately felt the "giddy anticipation of buying stuff". I've got lots of ideas for how I want to make the house perfect (i.e. complete). Isn't it good we have a Sunday after a Saturday where we can be reminded of what true perfection is?
